LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR COMMEMORATION OF 200th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF ALEXANDER HAMILTON
Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards, as part of his initiative to focus on the heritage of St. Croix, presents the calendar of events for “HAMILTON: THE FORMATIVE YEARS,” a multi-faceted event designed to highlight Alexander Hamilton’s youthful years spent on St. Croix.
Lieutenant Governor Richards shared: “This venue provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Alexander Hamilton’s valuable contributions to the nation and indirectly to the Territory, especially since his youthful years were spent on St. Croix. I believe that further examination of these years will reveal that they helped to shape and mold the person he became, as well as highlight his passion and purpose in his chosen professional path.”
“I strongly encourage everyone in the community to participate in these commemorative events. They are intended to draw attention to Hamilton’s life, especially the portion of his time spent on St. Croix. The events will offer something for everyone.”
Commemorative events, sponsored by the Office of Lieutenant Governor; U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism; University of the Virgin Islands; National Park Service; and U.S. Department of the Interior, will include:
Thursday, July 8, 2004
- Self-guided walking tours of Alexander Hamilton-related sites, beginning at Fort Christiansvaern, Christiansted, with guide handouts provided by the National Park Service.
